A Walk On Water: Carried by the Sea
The ocean has always been a place of transformation , a space where fear meets freedom. While volunteering with A Walk On Water, a surf therapy program for children and adults with special needs, I began documenting the moments that unfold between the waves: the hesitation before a ride, the laughter after a fall, the calm that follows the chaos of the sea.Through my lens, I saw how the ocean doesn’t just reflect emotion, it reshapes it. Faces once tense with uncertainty would soften into joy, trust, and self-belief. The water seemed to hold and carry each person differently, giving them a temporary weightlessness that often became something lasting. This series is both a visual and emotional record of those transformations. Shot across multiple sessions along the Montauk shore, Carried by the Sea explores how healing can emerge from movement, how community forms through care, and how the simple act of catching a wave can restore confidence and connection.
